not quite long gone
After finding Bear Blog coincidentally this afternoon, I couldn't help but to think that the personal blogging community never died, it was just buried under all the noise of social media all along.
For years I had been wanting to start a blog but I could never make up my mind about which platform I wanted to use. In my teen years when the blogosphere was starting out, I would blog on Hi5, MySpace or Blogger. But as an adult, I couldn't find one that catered to my needs. All the blogging spaces seemed identifiable, traceable even. One of the things I was specifically looking for, was a space where I could, for the most part—remain anonymous. The way blogs used to be back in the day.
Blogs aren't what they used to be. They are curated, branded, and monetized. Everything revolves around content creation. SEO is king. They are more about attention and shares then they are about connection and real conversations. So when I stumbled upon Bear Blog, I was elated. I couldn't believe a space like this existed. I honestly thought the personal blog days were long gone.
So here I am, writing my first post and looking forward to blogging more often.
